Legal Question in Immigration Law in Connecticut

Joint Sponsor Affidavit of Support

My US citizen sister is engaged to a Koren national who is seeking a fiancee visa. They have asked for my assistance in meeting the income requirement by becoming a joint sponsor for him. I understand this will be in effect either 5 years before applying (and being granted) for citizenship or 10 years of verifiable income. In the meantime, what happens if my sister dies or becomes divorced? Would I still be responsible?

He has a minor aged child as well. Am I also responsible for the child?

Re: Joint Sponsor Affidavit of Support

You would be responsible for him until he gets his citizenship, has worked 40 quarters, or until he no longer has a green card. Because your sister is a U.S. citizen, he would be eligible to apply for citizenship in 3 years, not 5 years. If they divorce, you are still responsible.
