Legal Question in Criminal Law in District of Columbia

If I am living with someone on probation, I am paying rent and have my own separate room, am I required to give his probation officer my personal information? Also is the probation officer allowed to search my room? Not that I would necessarily care but very curious.

When you have someone on parole live with you, you are giving up certain privacy rights. I'm not sure what you mean by "personal information", but you will have to be "vetted" before a parolee can live with you. This would entail you giving up some of your personal information. The parolee likely signed a 4th Amendment waiver, which allows the parole officer to enter your apartment without a warrant to conduct random stop checks and searches. This usually includes only the common areas and the personal living space of the parolee, exceptions apply (such as if there is contraband in your personal living space in plain sight of the parole officer).

Best of luck.*****The above is for informational purposes only and does not create an attorney-client privilege.*******
