Life insurance and the ''wife''

My fiance left me as his primary and only beneficiary of his life insurance policy. He passed and now his wife he has been seperated from is contesting it with the company because she wants the entire sum. There is a child involved, but he is not in school and doesnt fit for any educational benefits. Will she succeed in changing his wishes?
