credit card debit of a deceased

My mother passed away with over $40,000 in credit card debit.She is Survived by her husband, my father. Most of these bills are in my mothers name. Is my father responsible for my mothers debit?

No, but her Estate is liable for those debts. I need more facts to explain what the Estate would have to pay and if any Estate would have to be filed in the Probate court i.e assets, debts, how assets are titled, survivors, etc.

Unless your father agreed to be responsible for her debt, he is not. Your mother's estate is.
