Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Florida

I have a hospital bill that I could not get reduced by the hospital. They have turned it over to a collection agency. They want more than I can afford to pay per month. Is there an amount that I can pay to keep out of trouble but less than the amount that they are wanting?

Not unless you can convince the collection agency to accept your lower payment without taking further action. Collection agencies are notoriously difficult to bargain with. Let's assume that the agency wants $100/month and you can pay no more than $75. Pay the $75. You will continue to receive telephone calls, letters, etc, because you are not paying their minimum of $100. Remember, though, that a collection agency can only call you and send you letters. Only an attorney who represents the hospital can sue you for the unpaid amount. (This assumes that the hospital did not sell the debt.) At some point, depending on the size of the bill, you may be able to settle it.
