Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Florida

Hello. I live in Florida and had my kitchen remodeled in September. I paid upfront $4k and they are now asking for more money. Some of the work in the original contract was not completed and they stated they gave a credit for the work but I don't believe the credit was sufficient. I'm trying to work out a fair price with them but I'm concerned they will not continue to negotiate and put a lien on my house. In Florida, is there a time frame that a Contractor has to put a lien on my house from the time that the work was done? Do I have the ability to contest the lien before it's placed? Do liens gain interest the longer they're left on? Thank you.

If the job is not done to your specifications for the price you paid, then file suit. A credit should be a reimbursement to you. If they want more money to complete the job they agreed to do, then you need find out why. A lien can be placed if funds were not paid for work performed. It appears to me the work was performed but not completed. That you paid up front for non-performance. If they can't complete the job for the price quoted you have the upper hand not them. I can't see where they would file. You need to give more information to cover what occurred in order to get a proper answer.
