Legal Question in Criminal Law in Florida

I need to know exactly how to go about getting accepted into a diversion program in Osceola County. I see that the option must be presented by the State Attorney, but is there a way to indicate interest prior to the arraignment? I am 22 years old, have no criminal record, exemplary grades, I belong to an honor society, have a business where I work with children regularly and so on. The charge is for petit theft of items totaling $155. Can someone please explain to me the best plan of action for my specific case and the chances that I will be accepted into the program? Thank you very much.

An attorney can contact them for you and usually knows the method used in the local area a consultation should be free and many times the cost is much lower just to help you get into a program. In the alternative, you can also call the State attorney's office and ask if they have a PTI coordinator or someone who can tell you how to apply to PTI. Whether the office will talk to you as a defendant varies, but most have an application form you can submit to the office for consideration. If they will not speak with you, you can wait for the arraignment where you can state you are hoping to enter the diversion program. I am not familiar with Osceola specifically, but many jurisdictions have someone on hand at arraignment to provide information on the PTI program. Given your description, you should have no problem being accepted into the program.
