Legal Question in Criminal Law in Florida

I had an arrest while in FL approximately 6 years ago. I live in Mass. I recently found out while trying to apply for a passport I have a probation debt that I wasn't aware of.. I contacted the probation officer in FL that was my contact whom I never spoke with before. He wouldn't let me pay the debt. He wants me to go in front of a judge in FL and let him decide. Is that legal? What should I do?

Yes that is legal. What you should do is contact an attorney in or near the county where the charge comes from. They can advise you as to what is best and what is going to happen there.

I agree with response above. If my office can be of any assistance in No. Fla. pls. give us a call. It may be necessary to set a court date, especially, if the probation dept. filed the failure to pay that debt as a violation. Usually, if you completed a substantial part of the requirements, just need to pay that debt, the court will simply accept the admission and move on. Good luck. Tom Rosenblum
