Legal Question in Criminal Law in Florida

my brother is trying to get me into deer hunting. Well i dont own a gun. Never have. But 15 years ago i got into some trouble. My ex stole my credit card and went on a shopping trip. Well i hounded her about paying me back what she stole. And snatched my credit card out of her hand just grazing her hand. I didnt know that can be a mesdemnor. Anyhow i ended up getting a touch/strike. And a stalking mesdemnor. But adjudication witheld on both. Can i buy a gun from a gun store. Would that keep me from legally purchasing a gun to go deer hunting

This is a tricky area, but under federal law, you can not possess a firearm. Federal law does not recognize withhold of adjudication. Therefore, if you are convicted of a domestic violence offense such as stalking, battery, assault, etc., then you are forbidden from possessing a firearm. That also means that you can not buy a gun.
