Legal Question in Criminal Law in Florida

I was able to obtain the phone number (who knows if it is up to date) of one of my childhood sports heroes using one of those information gathering websites that seem to be everywhere these days. I'd like to call and say hello and simply state that I am a big fan. However, I do not think I will do that (I think it unwise) because I think that #1 He doesn't want to hear from some random fan from 25 years ago. Also, I think that a call like this might be seen as harassment. So I was wondering (while I do not plan to make such a call) is this harassment? Is there some law preventing me from calling or is it just a matter of bad taste and he wouldn't want to be bothered be me (most likely/ I think most famous people wouldn't want to be bothered.)

A single call like the one you describe would not be harassment. I agree with you, though, both that it would be rude and that it would likely be unwelcome.

If you'd like to speak with this gentlemen, perhaps you should say so in a letter or an email. Most celebrities appreciate fan mail, which is far less intrusive than a phone call. Many -- especially the ones who have been out of the spotlight for a while -- read most or all of the notes they receive. Sometimes they respond. If you ask your hero to call you and give him your number, he just might do it. Even if he doesn't, he won't resent you for asking.

Good luck.
