Legal Question in Family Law in Florida

Adoption Information Please

I gave a child up for adoption recently and the agency had agreed to pay me a certain amount to cover my expenses and the balance was to be paid after delivery. On the initial appointment she had gave me the ''adotion diclosure and acknowledgement of receipt of adoption disclosure''. On that paper she had wrot in the total amount agreed upon, but never had given me a copy of the ''agreement''. She is now trying to tell me that the amount was other than what we had agreed upon. She has told me that if she made a mistake that she would correct it, but I have reason to believe that she may have done this on purpose and could have possibly gone back and changed some of the paperwork illegally. I would like to write her a letter and send it in certified mail giving her a short period of time to pay me the rest of the money agreed upon or I am going to take it to the next level by getting DCF and the court system involved. Is this a legal way for me to go about doing this or do you have a better suggestion? Any advice that you could provide me with would be greatly appreciated. Thank you so much for your time.

Re: Adoption Information Please

How threatened do you think a lawyer is going to be by a letter? And do you think your word will stand up in court against hers when she says you got a copy of the document that said exactly what she says it said?

The one chance you have is that the law pretty much regulates how much money you get, and it would be unusual for you to get less than that. You should check with an adoption lawyer and compare how much you got with what the statute allows.
