Legal Question in Family Law in Florida

I was divorce in Puerto Rico and paid child support to my two kids. They have since moved to Tampa Florida and have been living in Tampa for over 5 yrs. My oldest child is now 21 yrs old and in college. Do I still legally need to pay child support for the 21 yr old? She is working, attending college and still living with her mother?

Most likely not. You can file to recalculate the support in FL.

To answer your question an attorney would need to review the divorce decree (specifically the clause(s) relating to payment of child support). Assuming your decree supports that you are now to stop paying support but the support payment has continued and is accruing against you, you may need to file a Modification action to terminate the support payment.

I would advise that you consult with a local attorney in person and take the documents with you for his/her review. There may be other bars to modification such as jurisdiction (the court's authority to act on the matter)
