Legal Question in Family Law in Florida

Nephew child custody

I have a 15 year old nephew who lives with his alcholoic father. He want to come live with me. At what age can he choose? My nephew doesn't want to go through the courts. If he runs away to here what are my obligations?

Re: Nephew child custody

Ordinarily, the child is the responsibility of the parent until he reaches age 18. However, you could file a petition to terminate the parental rights under Ga. Code Sec. 15-11-81 which you can find at http://www.ganet.org/services/ocode/ocgsearch.htm. I understand that your nephew does not want to go through the court system; however, if you harbor him against the father's wishes you could be charged criminally with interference with custody.
