Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Florida

My son in law bought a car from a private seller for 3500.00, He drove it away from the guys house and about 20 miles and it died on him. The seller said he would fix it for free labor but wants him to pay 700.00 for parts to fix it. does he have any recourse for this.

He bought the car as is i assume with no warranties. It was up to him to investigate whether the car worked or not. Agreeing them to let the seller fix it without an estimate for the cost of parts pretty much opened him up to a charge that is unexplained. If he wants the car pay the $700 and dont take it back to the seller. Or have a heart to heart with the seller about how he hid knowledge about the state of the vehicle before he sold it and perhaps he will reduce the current fix.
