What documents were requested? When were they submitted? There are other questions too. My specific advice will depend on the answers to these and other questions. If your work permit is based on a pending application for adjustment of status, then I suggest that you obtain an extension of your work permit. Some times the USCIS takes longer than expected to approve the green card.

I am assuming, based upon the fact that you have been to an interview, that, whether you are applying through a preexisting grant of asylum, or through the typical application for a green card through either your spouse/fiance/family member or your employer with an adjustment of status, you are seeking permanent legal resident status. Since you have likely gone to the point of filing for an adjustment of status, go ahead and gain extension of time of your present EAD. It no doubt has been based upon a non-immigrant work visa, and you should maintain that until your AOS has been granted.
