Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Florida

My boyfriend and I have been living together for 5 years. We have been in this particular house for 3 years. We are having problems in our relationship now. We recently had to sign another lease renewal letter and he signed it with a scribble mark instead of his regular signature. I think he figured he couldn't be obligated to the lease if he decided to leave the relationship by signing the renewal with a scribble mark instead of his normal signature. If he does decide to move out before this current lease is up is he still responsible for his share of the rent and utilities until the end of the lease? If so, how do I go about making him pay his share?

He likely wont be able to avoid responsibility due to the scribble alone assuming you can verify that he in fact signed it. The lease controls as to responsibility. If it provides that you each pay 1/2, than that would remain the same even if he moved out. The more likely scenario is that you are both obligated for 100% of the lease payments. I suggest you seek some legal help and have the lease reviewed.
