landlord does not surrenter property at time of lease start

I have a signed lease agreement with date to begin occupancy. I

also have given security deposit. Landlord has had 2 months prior

notice to have residence ready and 4 weeks since signing of

lease. Landlord says he does not have ready for date agreed

upon and listed on lease. I have to move from current residence

and have no been given any assisting options from prospective

landlord. What can I do ? I will be without home soon.

please help point me in the right direction for help.

Read your lease. It should specify when a breach of contract occurs. You should be able to terminate the lease and obtain damages.
