Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Florida

Leaving commercial retail space 6 months before lease expires. Had a 10 year lease in a desirable mall, business took a huge downturn can no longer pay rent. Did not pay December rent, when and how do I advice leasing office of my planned departure on Dec 31. Should I tell them the same day?leave keys with management office?

Your lease controls your responsibility. You likely will owe the rental that is due until the end of your lease. If you are trying to get the landlord to allow you out as of the end of the month, you will need to discuss the circumstances with them. Giving them no notice does not give them an opportunity to re-rent the space to another tenant.
