Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Florida

I posted this question before but i am going to include more detail this time. I received a summons from an apartment i lived at for breaking the lease 5 months early and damages under $15000. I left the apartment with my brother so i can really say what condition the apartment was left in. I have tried to contact him but he hasn't responded. The lease said we will lose our security deposit for early termination. Is that all they will take for breaking the lease? They want a written response soon. I don't know what to say to them. I live in New York, am i going to have to go down for a trial? I would prefer just to pay them what i owe, but how do i know what they are charging me for damages is correct?

Contact whoever served you in writing and ask for total amount which is due. The complaint should state it.

They should also give you an itemized statement as to damages.
