Legal Question in Legal Ethics in Florida

patient rights to access to medical records

I was told by my doctor's office when I asked for my xrays that it is against the law for them to give them to me. That I would have to pay for copies. Is this true and if so what Florida Statute covers this requirement?

Re: patient rights to access to medical records

Someone is misinformed. Under both federal and state law your medical records belong to you. A reasonable charge may be assessed for copies or record retrieval, but the records are yours and there is no law prohibiting you from obtaining them.

Stand your ground - make them come through for you.
