Legal Question in Personal Injury in Florida

My wife manages a rental house in FL. She was never legally employed by the owners or the management company and never got paid besides that our own room is for free. We rent rooms In the house. We had the front stairs replaced and she placed a pretty small sign on the door and a larger signes were placed in each room which said that there are renovations and please use the back exit. The first day all the tenants used the back door. The second day one tenant looked back and talked to me as he opened the front door and fell off into the missing stairs and broke some ribs. Over &100,000 medical bill. He sued the insurance and did not get anything so now he had a document served to the owners (in another state) and a person from the management company and to my wife. He is sueing all the three together. My wife has been avoiding the serving company for a week now. we are on a low income bracket and don't know what to do and how to deal with it. Does he have a chance against my wife? Could a judge order that my wife pay compensation ? She has a very low income. What advice could you give now besides to hire a lawyer. Should we use the lawyer of the Owners since he is representing all the three? Or do we need to separate? Should she continue avoiding the serving? Can she openly refuse to be served? Thanks, C.D

David Slater David P. Slater, Esq.

She will eventually be served. She should be covered by the homeowner's insurance company.

She may want to retain a private attorney to make sure everything is being done properly to protect her.
