Legal Question in Product Liability in Florida

A factory sealed component has been leaking from my refrigerator for some time before it was noticed. It has caused between $16,000 to $20,000 of damage to my home. We will have to replace 1,200 sqft of wood floors, paint, and new trim. The refrigerator is only 4 years old. The leak is coming from a plastic component in ice make pump assembly. Is the manufacture liable or is there a case to be made?

If the refrigerator came with a warranty, and you are still within the warranty period, then yes. If you bought the refrigerator directly from the manufacturer (not used), then probably. You don't need to run right out and file suit, but rather see if you can make a claim under the warranty. If the manufacturer is giving you a hard time (or no warranty at all), you should hire an attorney to see if something else can be done.

Perhaps. It depends on the facts. What was leaking? For how long? Why didn't you notice? what was the damage (20K does not seem believable).
