Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Florida

I bought a house in Florida with a possible unpermitted addition but I'm afraid to ask if it is, lest I start an inquiry.

The house I just bought was built in the early 1970s. It used to have an outdoor patio that led to a pool. An previous owner (probably within the last 5-6 years) renovated the house into a beautiful dream home (we thought) with super expensive finishes.

We had an electrical issue and brought in an electrician to take care of it. He pointed out that there were not enough wall outlets in our sunroom and in our kitchen island. He said that we must have an unpermitted addition because that would not have passed inspection.

When I look at the property appraisers website, it does appear that this sunroom is part of the property appraiser's drawing. Therefore, I assume I'm being taxed on this room. Even if it was an illegal addition (or perhaps was illegally renovated; not sure), the city/county can't come after me, right? Someone told me that if I'm being taxed for it, they can't penalize me.

I'm afraid to ask for past permit records lest I arouse some suspicion. Is my worry unfounded?

Thanks!

I disagree. You will never be to sell until these violations are cleared.
