i was transferred to nashville from florida and got laid off. I had to move back to florida because i couldnt find a job. I left 8 months early from my lease and they are having me pay 2 months plus and early termination fee in the amount of 1 month lrent. is that something i can legally get out of

Yes, if they immediately rerented the unit or your lease had a different early termination provision.

Your lease agreement controls this situation. What does it provide for early termination? if no provision than the landlord can set whatever standard they want and it is up to you if you agree.
