Legal Question in Social Security Law in Florida

Hello. I had a SSDI hearing May of 2014. I have the work credits to qualify for SSDI. I also have a SSI hearing scheduled in August. Is this a good thing that I have an SSI hearing in addition to my recent SSDI hearing? I guess my main concern is if approved by the ALJ Judge, will I be approved for SSDI or SSI? Income is considerably different between the two. Thanks.

Usually SSD and SSI hearings are held together. Unusual to have two. It is possible to win both but there are limits. If your SSD amount is above a certain point you will not receive any SSI money even if you win. If your SSD is below a point you can get a second payment from SSI bringing you up to a cutoff point. The big issue is usually health insurance; SSD medicare doesn't start for two years. If awarded SSI you will get Medicaid immediately. Hope you have an attorney because you need one; why didn't your attorney answer for you?
