Legal Question in Traffic Law in Florida

Other Person's Prescription

My boyfriend was reticently pulled over for going 61 mph in a 55 mph. As an hour passed, he was forced to take a breathalyzer, searched, and then a canine dog stiffed out his car. The dog found 800ml ibuprofen that were prescribed to his grandmother a while back. She was taking them after her stroke, and no longer took them. My boyfriend had a severe back pain in which his grandmother empty the bottle into a plastic bag and gave them to him. He now has been issued to go to court on February 17. What is the kind of things he could be facing.

Re: Other Person's Prescription

If he was in possession of a quantity of drugs without a prescription, he could be facing either a misdemeanor or felony drug charge (depending on the lab report or forensic chemist's report on what the drug was as well as its weight. I've never heard of drug sniffing dogs hitting on ibuprofen. If it was mixed with another painkiller as is common in percocet and/or vicodin, then he might be looking at a felony charge. If the weight of the drug is over a certain amount, he could be looking at a Trafficking charge with a mandatory/minimum prison sentence.

An attorney should definitely be involved in reviewing his case with him.
