Legal Question in Traffic Law in Florida

Hello, I am a UK driver, but was caught speeding in Florida through Collier County court. I have not paid my speeding fine which is at $301. This was back in Aug 2011. What will happen when I return to Florida? Will I be able to hire a car? Thanks.

Your fine is busy accruing interest. So if it goes unpaid, then it will just get bigger. Your second question is related to non-payment, but the answer isn't clear. Since you were on a UK license, it may not show up. That said, as a purely legal matter, once you don't pay a ticket, then your privilege to drive in Florida, even on an out of state or out of country license, will be suspended until you pay it. Therefore, you may be unable to rent a car. Of course, even if you can, you could be cited for driving on a suspended license, which can be a criminal offense. Remember, just because the UK didn't suspend your license doesn't mean Florida can't suspend your PRIVILEGE to drive in Florida, which Florida has the right to take away.
