If he left no Will, then even though you were estranged, that makes you his sole heir. If he left property jointly, ITF, ATF or names a beneficiary on an asset, then it goes to them. If he left it in his own name, it goes to you.

You should sit down with an attorney to discuss what you know. You will be requiring an attorney if there is a probate proceeding.

You might want to move into the house or place where he lived - cause if you don't they will remove all papers and documents that you will need to find his assets.

Did he have a will? You can check with the county court house where he lived if one is filed.
