Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Georgia

I answered a statement of claim in Gwinnett Magistrate Court on May 26th of this year. How long should I have to wait for a court date?

A couple of weeks. The magistrate should assign you a hearing date. Why are you concerned about that? The longer the better for most defendants. The real issue is what are you being sued for? By whom? What kind of answer did you file?

If this is for a debt of some type, is this your debt? Do you have any defenses? Would it be cost effective to resolve the debt? You need to take the papers to a lawyer NOW because if you filed your own answer, chances are very good that it needs revised. A lawyer can draft an amended answer for you and assert any valid defenses if you have them and represent you at the hearing if need be. I would not delay here.
