Re: mandatory minimum sentence

Mandatory Minimum means the mimimum amount of "time" and/or "fine" that the statute allows to be given for a specific crime. Many statutes set mandatory minimums but then allow a certain amount to be "suspended". Basically, this ends in the same result as receiving a lower sentence in the real world but satisfies some legal requirements that are too indepth to address here.

In the case that you described, the mandatory minimum for the crime committed would be 25 years. From what you write, it sounds as if the judge suspended all but 15 years. IF I am understanding the example correctly then it will have no bearing on any parole hearings.
