Legal Question in Criminal Law in Georgia

probation/ga first offenders treatment

I was charged with theft by receiving in Chatham county superior court. I was advised by my lawyer at the time to enter a plea under GA 1st offender status. I was given 2yrs probation. I was told that once restitution was paid and I successfully served half of my probation, I could appeal and have the rest of the probation dropped. I am a Criminal Justice student that is due to graduate soon and am looking to get into law enforcement and possibly the military. My question is do I need ot have a lawyer handle my appeal or can I file the paperwork myself? As a college student, I cannot afford another lawyer.

Re: probation/ga first offenders treatment

It is not an appeal that will be filed-it is a motion for early termination of probation. You can certainly file the paperwork pro se, should you choose to do so.
