Legal Question in Criminal Law in Georgia

Recently I was booked in the state of Georgia for a shoplifting charge now when they booked me they did jot ask me for my social security number nor did they allow me to get it until a week later the officcer who did finally let me get my social security number told me they were not allowed to book me without it can I get some advice on if this was right also I was informed that in the state of Georgia all shoplifting charges under 50 dollars were a ticket mine was 5 but I did not receive a ticket instead am being charged with a misdemeanor I would also like advice on this thank u
