Legal Question in DUI Law in Georgia

I went to the liquor store and purchased a bottle of hard liquor. When in the car, I turned the bottle up and probably had 3 to 4 shots. I then got in my car and went to pick up my son, which is ten minutes away. Upon five minutes into the return trip, my tires veered off the road and flipped my car. My son and I were taken by ambulance. My son was not injured at all. I sustained a broken foot that required surgery, and back injuries. I was in the hospital for four days following the incident. I heard the hospital staff say that my blood alcohol level when blood was drawn at the hospital was .24. I have not been contacted by any police officers, and in fact called the person who made the accident report. I asked him if there was anything I needed to pick up or anything I needed to do. He said I could come get my license and vehicle registration at the station. He said he did not need anything from me. I have not received any phone calls, citations, or visits from the police department. I am confused. What does all of this mean?

P.S. - I was operating my vehicle in the state of Georgia, and am licensed in Kansas.

I suspect that they will charge you at some point. They may even arrest you when you get your license. You should talk to a criminal lawyer ASAP. Bear in mind that you can be charged up to two years after the fact.

The simple fact that you have not been charged should not quell your concern about subsequent prosecution. In fact, the smart thing to do is to begin the process of interviewing and ultimately retaining a criminal lawyer. The potential charges are serious and you could likely face jail time. In the past, I've seen clients in your position arrested prior to release from the hospital.
