Legal Question in Family Law in Georgia

divorce

I have been married one month. My husband is 13 yrs older and when we met he promissed me the world. He owns a business. He stated to me and several friends I no longer needed to work,I quit my job and sold my home and moved in with him and hince we were wed. Now he drinks constantly, has cut all funds from me,told me his business was none of my business and he leaves me constantly to live in the apartment in his business office. He recently purchased a home and building worth 248,000. Im currently living in a small home he owns in jackson county. I feel he should be responsible for providing me with a home for me and my son who is 17. He has stated that Icould keep this house and property, but now he says to get out.

He calls me cruel names and has shoved me. He has been convicted of family violence from his second marriage. He has also been to rehab for alcohol abuse. Can he be made to provide for us since he took me from my stable job and home and turned my life upside down? Im so depressed I cant even leave the house. In tears constantly. I feel I have been used and now thrown away. He told me if I get a lawyer it better be a good one. Always THREATS.

Re: divorce

He was right - get a good lawyer. This website is not going to resolve the issues. However, do not go into the process thinking you are going to get long term support after a one month marriage. I am not speculation about what will happen - just cautioning you to not count on it. It looks like there were MAJOR warning signs anyway.

If he shoves you or threatens to, that is different - call the police/sheriff.

Take him at his word: get a good lawyer. No one should be treated this way. If you would like to discuss, feel free to give me a call.
