Legal Question in Family Law in Georgia

interest on back child support

my husband owed about 30,000 dollars in back child support. we have been paying on it and the current child support for 9 years. we are down to $600 back child support and both children are now 18 , so there is no current child support anymore. About 3 months ago they hit us with $25,000 in interest that we now owe. We had never been told it was collecting interest. is this legal? i know it is sure not fair.

Re: interest on back child support

Under GA law, interest does in fact accrue. However, a judge can set the interest aside under certain conditions. Consult with a local attorney.
