Legal Question in Family Law in Georgia

Legitimize a child

In the state of Georgia how does a father go about legitimizing a child born out of wedlock?

Also if he marries the mother does that legitimize the child?

Re: Legitimize a child

In general it's done by a court case, but marriage can legitimate a child in some circumstances. I'd need details, so call me to discuss this.

Re: Legitimize a child

Marriage to the mother is generally sufficient to legitimate the relationship bewteen the father and the child. If that is not going to happen, a petition is typically filed by the father in the county where the mother and child reside. In addition to legitimation, other issues may include custody, child support, visitation/parenting time, etc.
