Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Georgia

My principal made a statement to a teacher in which I overheard my name. Therefore, I asked "What" to find out what was going on. The principal said "it wasn't bad" and proceeded to tell me what was said. In response I said, I was just checking to see if I needed to defend myself. Nothing more was said, but I was written up for insubordination. Was this principal justified in her action?
