is it illegal to use someone elses social security card to gain employment

It is a felony under federal law. Since it's a weekend I am telling you the penalty from vague memory, but you could serve up to 15 years in prison, and pay up to $250,000 fine, if my memory serves.

You might also face additional penalties under state law.
