Failure to pay wages

Failure to pay employees..issuing payroll checks that local banks will not honor...what are my rights excluding having to hire an attorney and having to pay him more than the amount of my payroll check

Assuming that you are an employee rather than an independent contractor, then you can report the individual to the U. S. Dept. of Labor Wage & Hour Division, and the Georgia Department of Labor. The federal and state governments also have an interest in making sure that the income taxes are paid, so you could also follow up with the IRS and Georgia Dept. of Revenue to make sure that the taxes that were deducted from your pay check were actually submitted to them. It might be a good idea to send the employer a demand letter that clearly states the interval when wages were earned, but not received and the details of the dishonered check.
