Legal Question in Employment Law in Georgia

My husband was fired from his job. In his severance package they named 4 specific firms he could not work for for 2 years. It doesn't seem legal to prevent someone from earning a living for their family.

Restrictions on someone's ability to work are closely scrutinized by the courts. My advice is to consult a Georgia lawyer, who can review the severance package documents and advise you of your rights and options BEFORE your husband signs the documents.

Non-compete agreements are difficult to enforce in Georgia. To properly advise you, an attorney will need to review the severance agreement in its entirety. If you are interested, I would be happy to offer you a free consultation by phone. You may contact me using the link attached to this response.

What is your question? Severance packages often come with restrictions. Employees are usually free to accept or reject the deal, it is "legal"for the employee to make their own decisions. We have no idea what was signed, or agreed upon, and you did not think it important to actually tell us the whole story, including what he got in severance.
