Legal Question in Employment Law in Georgia

Medical leave employment termination

Prior to being hurt in a fall that has left me unable to work or walk for an extended period of time I was informed verbally by my employer that my position was being eliminated as of 6/30/07 but they would help me find a new job. After the accident I received a letter telling me my last date of employment would be 8/29/07. What legal avenue can I pursue to get disability, medical, leave, etc.? What rights do I have? Recovery may not be complete as of 8/29 and previous job required physical labor I may not be able to perform. The employer is a state agency and I have been employed with them for over 20 years.

Discussion of the answer to your question in this nonconfidential forum is inappropriate. You should consult an attorney where your options can be developed in an atmosphere that is privileged. You should advoid discussion of your case with anyone, especially former co-workers, employer representatives and insurance company representatives.
