Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Georgia

A coworker of mine told me I could stay at her house for 2 months while I finished closing on the one I am purchasing, since My lease was up and I couldn't extend it for 2 months only. After only 3 weeks tho I told her I was going to leave cause she also moved her brother in there and we didn't get along at all,but he family so I felt I would just go. I took 1/2 my stuff and told her I would come back for the other half in a few days due to the weather and she was fine with it. Then when I went back for my stuff she stated she wanted me to give her money since I stayed with her and she is short covering her rent. I told her I could give her 1/2 of what she asked for and her response was ok good when you get it I will give you the rest of your stuff. Can she do this?

No, and you can either civilly sue her or possibly swear out a criminal warrant against her for theft.

The easy solution is to give her the money you agreed to pay, get your things, move on, and spend your time and resources wisely from this point on. Lawsuits and criminal charges of this nature often lead to claims coming back to you. Both of you should have taken the responsibility of coming to an agreement about any payments (or confirming there was no rent charged) before you moved in.
