Legal Question in Legal Ethics in Georgia

Lawyer sends me a bill 6 years after the divorce. They are claiming its the retainer fee. This is the first bill they have sent me since the trail. I paid the lawyer up front before the trail. Is there a SOL on this? Macon, GA

Depending on whether you had a writen fee agreement or not, the statute of limitations should be six years or less. I'd send the lawyer a certified letter that says three things only:

(1) You dispute the alleged debt because you paid all legal fees due in full

(2) The statute of limitations has run

(3) You'll contact the state bar of Georgia with a fee complaint if he continues to bill you.
