Legal Question in Personal Injury in Georgia

Animal Disputes

My dog got out of my yard and attacked a cat (that wasn't in it's yard). The cat didn't die, I want to know how much am I responsible to pay for it's vet. bills? 50%, 100%

We paid the first vet without difficulty but now the bills are becoming outrageous.

Re: Animal Disputes

I do not know the answer because I do not have reference to the leash law which may be in effect in your locality. That said, your dog caused the injury. Your initial response was to pay the vet bill. Probably due to your sense of responsibility. That fact alone does not, however, mean that you have assumed responsibility for the event. On the other hand, your reaction is likely the reaction a prospective juror would take if the case goes to court.

Other issues such as your dog's propensity to get out may also have some bearing on the case.

I will be happy to discuss this matter further if you would like.
