You could potentially be responsible depending on the details. And you may not be.

I am mystified why you call it a nightmare. Presumably you had insurance. Hopefully the other parties did too. The insurers would be sorting out the car damages. And since you were injured I assume you hired a lawyer, and the lawyer will evaluate and pursue your possible civil claims. Your insurer will defend you against claims by the other side.

So why is this a nightmare? What important facts did you leave out? Those matter.

If you were injured from a rear-end collision because of the fault of other drivers (as indicated on the police report or ticket given), you will not be held responsible and you may be entitled to recover compensation for your injuries.

It is important that you now immediately contact an attorney to begin handling your claim with the insurance company of the driver that rear-ended your vehicle. I will need additional information - however, do not post the specifics on this public website.

Please call my Atlanta office this afternoon for a free consultation. [404.496.4119] Good luck.
