Legal Question in Personal Injury in Georgia

Question regarding libel and defamation of character

Our corporation has had a problem with one of our neighbors. This neighbor has had the local newspaper write up two front page articles complainting about our corporation citing that we are using intimidating actions. Another neighbor has recently had a problem with a boundary we set up and again the local paper wrote a one sided piece about our corporation that was fairly negative. The letters to the editor were overwhelming negative and heavily quoted from the article. Can we sue the local newspaper for defamation of character as it has published three news articles on its front page regarding a civil matter?

Re: Question regarding libel and defamation of character

The question can't be answered from the information provided so far. In the best of circumstances, it is difficult to maintain a cause of action in defamation against a newspaper. I recommend you consult with an attorney, but prior to doing so prepare yourself to give very detailed information regarding the defamatory statements, how the statements have defamed the company and how the defamation has damaged the company.

Cases like this are difficult but not impossible to pursue. You should IMMEDIATELY consult with a local attorney. The reason I emphasize "immediately" is that there is a rule of law that, basically, says that if you have been wronged and don't take action, you can be deemed to have not considered it a big deal.
