Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Georgia

Death of Spouse with mortgage in his name only

Recently my father passed away. I tried to get information concerning the mortgage of his and my mother's home. My mother will still be living in the home. I was told my the mortgage/fin. company that we would have to go through the courts on a matter like this, and they could not release any information because only my father's name was on loan papers. What can I do just to find out the payoff amount.

Contact an attorney, like myself, who handles real estate matters.

The person handling the estate can get the information. There is no need to go to the additional expense of hiring a lawyer for that.
