Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Georgia

I live with my Mom, she owns the property, and do not have a set contract in place for rent but do contribute financially. An issue occurred with her boyfriend where he was verbally and physically assaulting me. She called the cops. The cops told me that if she wants she can ask me to leave whenever she wants and I have to go right then, even though it is my legal residence. I have items throughout the house that are my property and my three dogs that are in my name at the vet. I have talked to cops in another county and they said the law in GA is that if the address is on your license and you receive mail at that location it is your legal residence and they have to go through proper 30 day eviction process. I am very confused about what the actual law in GA says about this. I want to know what my rights are, so as to avoid not having a place to live or getting arrested for criminal trespassing if another situation arises. This location has been my legal residence for 21 years. I'm currently 31 years old, working and in graduate school full time.

"An issue occurred with her boyfriend where he was verbally and physically assaulting me." Yet, you are asking how you can delay moving? Yes, you have to get notice and then your mother files an eviction, but why would you want to get to that point? Are you actively looking for a new place to live, every day? Usually apartments are not too difficult to find, even if it is not the perfect one. Find a place to move now - it is time to leave home.
