Auto accident/??Hit and run

My son was recently involved in an auto accident where he was driving down the road and a van pulled out in front of him. The driver of the van was crossing the highway. Once the vehicles made contact, the van continued across the road and didn't stop. My son ended up on the opposite side of the road. His vehicle was non-drivable. There were several witnesses, and 2 gave statements. The police called someone they believed was the owner of the van. They denied being in an accident. The police finally found the auto and brought someone back to the scene. The guy that claimed he was driving the car could not offer much info as to how the accident happened. I do NOT think he was the actual driver. But we have no proof.He was supposedly given citations for leaving the scene as he had to go to the police dept. When we picked up a copy of the police report, it was incorrect. I talked to the Chief and he stated he would correct it. The corrected copy was wrong also. It states my son was changing lanes improperly-which he was not. He was going straight.Also doesn't say it was hit and run.Will this affect insurance paying for damages?What can I do to make sure all was done regarding the hit and run?And possibly not correct driver of van?

You are facing a real challenge if you do not get a correct police report. The insurance company for the van will absolutely fight the claim if the police report indicates your son contributed to the accident. As for the real driver, insurance follows the vehicle, so coverage will be there regardless of their driver.

I would continue to pressure the police department to correct the report. If your son was injured, he needs to seek follow up medical attention as well. You can contact my office if you have any more questions.
