Legal Question in Traffic Law in Georgia

Involved in an accident with a rental car

I was involved in an accident with a rental car. As a result of the accident I hit the rental car in the rear. I was cited for following too closely. Filed everything with my insurance company and was going to have them take care of everything. Well the other day I was informed of what the costs of the rental cars damages were. I was told that the total cost was $3000, and this is how it was divided up; $1500 for the damage to the rear bumper (replacement of bumper), $1300 for the money lost because the car will not be usable for rental while being repaired, and last $200 for administration fees of the rental company having to fill out paper work. My insurance company informed me that they may not cover these extra costs, so I will have to cover them. Are these the cost of an accident involving a rental car? And can I get out of those extra costs?

Re: Involved in an accident with a rental car

You potentially could be responsible for the indirect damages - lost profits and cost of paperwork. If you refuse to pay, they might file suit against you and then you could fight those extra costs.
